Product information "ABC! WLED ESP32-P4 shield"

Description of the WLED ESP32-P4 shield:

This shield/base board can be used with the Waveshare ESP32-P4-NANO (external link) controller board to build a string of lights/lighting system. 

Attention: WLED software for the ESP32-P4 controller is currently in a very early experimental stage. This experimental fork on GitHub (external link) can be compiled and used. Many features are still far from being fully developed. This shield is therefore only recommended for those who enjoy experimenting and/or want to contribute to the development of WLED on an ESP32-P4 controller. Tip: This board is also ideally suited for Moonlight Software (external link): the open-source lighting platform that scales from art installations to professional stages.

Features:

  • Up to 16 data outputs (5V level, after level shifter)
  • Up to 4 RS-485 outputs (as range extender outputs or DMX). One of these can also be used as an RS-485/DMX input.
  • Up to 4 inputs (for pushbuttons, etc.). The same terminals are used as for the outputs. Input/output switching is done with a microswitch.
  • Line-in input and a built-in analog-to-I2S chip for audio reactive WLED.

Instructions for installing/compiling WLED:

  1. Installation: You can install a suitable version using the web installer at https://wled-install.github.io/ (external link)
  2. Recommended: update of ESP32-C6 coprocessor firmware to 2.0.17 version: esp32-c6-firmware-update.github.io
  3. Compile: Use PlatformIO with the WLED-MM fork by Troy (external link). You may need to make the following changes:

  • In pin_manager.cpp, after the line "#elif defined(CONFIG_IDF_TARGET_ESP32P4)", comment out the lines "if (gpio < 2) return false;" and "if (gpio > 23 && gpio < 26) return false;".
  • In platformio.ini, change the environment definition PARLIO_PINS to "PARLIO_PINS=21,20,25,5,7,23,8,27,3,22,24,4,46,47,2,48".
  • To use Wi-Fi, comment out the line "-D WLED_USE_ETHERNET_ONLY" in platformio.ini.
